Company History

 

In 2007 Jackie Belau started Better Birth Sacramento because she wanted to create an online resource to help expecting parents research their birthing options more easily.   

Through her work as a doula, she realized that many people did not know about the resources and options available in her community.  Many parents, especially first-time parents, knew only what they saw on TV or what they learned from their friends, which often times she found was not a good portrayal of what birth can be.

Jackie wanted to help more parents get informed.  She explained, “I had two goals when developing this website: To inform parents about the options and resources available in Sacramento, and to educate parents about interventions and routines in local hospitals so that they can make educated decisions about their birth experience.” 

Additionally, there was a third goal Jackie realized and that was giving local birth professionals a well designed forum to exhibit themselves and their services. 

In 2008 Jackie recognized the need for all communities to have a Better Birth website.  So she began seeking out other birth professionals who shared in her desire to inform the public about these services and started Better Birth America.

Mission

Better Birth America is committed to educating parents about the options regarding the birth of their baby while giving local birth professionals the opportunity to promote themselves and their services to the public.
We believe that informed parents can make the best decisions for themselves and their families.  Therefore, we strive to give information about local resources available to parents as well as different viewpoints and strategies for labor and birth.
Better Birth does not necessarily mean un-medicated birth, but it does mean parents have a source to research many different options to guide them to a better birth experience.
